It’s Christmaaaas!!!!!!!
This month I have been advising Swansea Sound on all things Christmas décor, how exciting!
Here are some condensed hints and tips to perfect your Christmas décor.
1. Your Theme
The first thing you need to decide on is your theme! It can be as simple as choosing one particular colour such as reds or golds that will be prominent through your home. Alternatively, you can opt for a shape or symbol, a collectable item/s, even a décor style such as traditional, shabby chic or country-comfort. Whatever you decide on, make sure it is clear in your Christmas décor.
2. The Tree
The big question is Artificial or Real, what’s your preference? My biggest tip is graduate your tree. Start at the top with your smallest decorations (except for your showstopper tree topper), getting larger as you move down the tree. Save your larger decorations for the bottom third of the tree and of course include beautifully wrapped gifts under the tree as part of the festive decorations.
NO TO TINSEL!! A no-go in my household! There are plenty of other beautiful garlands that can add glamour and the final touch. Try wooden garlands, made with natural wooden beads, natural in colour or painted. Long sprigs of eucalyptus on a wire, dried fruit and cinnamon sticks, simple wired ribbon or even handmade paper chain garlands that the family can sit down and make together.
3. Table Decoration for the Big Day!
Have you thought about your table for the big day yet? If not, WHY NOT? It’s a huge deal and will make any guest stop in their tracks if you’ve made an effort. Layer your table with a tablecloth or table runner, fabric napkins, napkin holders, beautiful place settings and of course that impactful table centre decoration.
How stunning are these peacock beaded placemats?
See, didn’t I predict that peacocks were the next big thing to hit the Highstreet in my August Magazine!
Set your theme, be it traditional, winter wonderland white, rustic or even funky colours. I love the idea of little gift boxes set at each place setting, personalised for your guest. Guide your guests to the table with a name setting on each gift. Fill them with personalised gifts, an after-dinner chocolate and a lovely personalised message to show them how special they are. Every guest is guaranteed to feel a guest of honour. Check out these cute personalised gift boxes!
4. The tiny details that make a BIG impact
Welcome your guests with a pre-dinner drink or three. A simple addition to a beautifully thought out ice cube, set with a sprig of rosemary and a cranberry or a simple dried cube of orange or any other festive fruit. These creative home-made ice cubes are so simple, cost-effective and most importantly, a show stopper! They are guaranteed to get your guests talking and complimenting your attention to detail.
Have a wonderful Christmas, embrace your home, enjoy your family and cherish the day with your loved ones.
Here’s to health and happiness, Merry Christmas, Elizabeth xxx
