1. Change your core colour palette
The colour you choose will give you a basis to build upon. Only select 2 – 3 core colours. Check out what hues are in the news!
2. Introduce artwork
Don’t neglect your walls. Find a piece of artwork you love, whether it’s a print, photograph or even a framed tapestry. Pulling colours from the artwork will give your room a harmonious flow.
3. Mix patterns
Don’t be afraid of pattern, most clients I know stick to plain fabrics without a bit of encouragement from me. The trick is to ensure the prints and patterns complement each other.
4. Buy a statement floor rug.
The right rug can create a striking statement to uplift your room immediately. Always consider the size to the proportion of the room.
5. Get your lighting right.
This is one of the most important factors, the right lighting in the correct places will create an inviting and warm ambience in your home.
6. Invest in a few expensive items
For key focal items of furniture invest in good quality rather than items that are trend driven. Good quality timeless pieces can be updated with soft furnishings, such as cushions, throws and rugs once you are tired of them.
7. Go back to nature
If your colour palette is neutral, buy some gorgeous green indoor plants to enliven the space.
8. Declutter
Statistics show that a minimalistic room will be less stressful to live in. Go on, give it a go! Remove all unnecessary and outdated items. Less is definitely more.
9. Get ahead
Invest in a fabulous headboard for your bed to add significant impact to the look of your bedroom.
10. The curtains up
Change your curtains, another investment, however, well worth it – you’ll be surprised how much they will transform a tired or plain room to something spectacular!
